The Brick and Tile Research Institute was founded in 1952 as Research Center for the brick industry. Ever since it deals with applied research and development as well as advice and service for the heavy clay industry. The experience of decades, a high competence and pursuit of innovation characterizes its employees. The field of work is complex and includes questions concerning the exact adjustment of product properties and innovations over the whole production process. Due to the typical energy-intensive processes the actual political guidelines and laws concerning climate protection, energy saving and resource efficiency are of major importance. The subjects are investigated within the pre-competitive joint research and other national or european support programmes as well as in direct partnership with interested companies to gain advantages in competition. Furthermore, the insights concerning the efficiency of drying and firing processes can be transferred to other industries.
The Brick and Tile Research Institute is a nonprofit association. The members are companies of the brick industry and plant manufacturers of the ceramic industry.
